Meet Melanie North
As an integrative holistic health practitioner, Melanie's approach to helping clients achieve better health and wellness is very personalized, recognizing that each individual's path to healing is unique. Her own complicated health journey, which eventually resulted in multiple diagnosed autoimmune conditions, was exacerbated by experiencing a severe lack of doctors within the modern Western medical model, with a clear understanding and knowledge of the human body at a cellular level. Where allopathic doctors were only interested in the pharmaceutical suppression of symptoms, Melanie was interested in getting to the core of the issues. If diseases could be triggered, why couldn’t they also be healed? This lingering question in her mind would lead her to seeking education in functional medicine and nutrition, and would also eventually lead to her discovery that the path to healing is anything but linear. She sought healing from countless sources over the years, because, while lifestyle changes that targeted nutritional deficiencies helped relieve many symptoms and conditions, they would also eventually prove insufficient in achieving the balanced and sustainable health and well-being that she so desperately sought. Through her experiences, she would later learn that a holistic approach to healing also recognizes the interconnectedness of one’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, and that at the root of any illness and/or disease, also lies an energetic component. In her continued search for wellness, she came across the well-known author Bessel Van der Kolk’s book “The Body Keeps the Score”, which prompted her to further her studies, seeking trauma-informed education and certifications in polyvagal theory, somatic experiencing, meditation, breathwork, sacred plant medicines, chakra healing and tapping/EFT. Subsequently, Melanie became a certified, trauma-informed practitioner of Somatic Embodiment Therapy. She is broadly educated through both formal and informal means of study, such as the Institute of Applied Somatics, as well as continuing education courses such as Peter Levine’s “Body As Healer". Her own lifestyle and wellness routine is now rooted in her expanded awareness and knowledge in a broad range of healing modalities, as well as deeply informs her personal spiritual practice, all of which promotes more balanced physical and emotional health, and is at the foundation of her approach as a holistic health and wellness mentor.
As an Intuitive Guide and Empathetic Connection, Melanie combines her scientific understanding of functional nutrition with her intuitive connection to your body's wisdom. Often referred to as a “medical intuitive”, Melanie's intuition guides her every interaction, allowing her to connect with you on a deeper level, while also creating a safe and supportive space for you to explore your own inner landscape to foster a sense of self-trust and vulnerability. She might receive intuitive impressions about specific concerns, topics of discussion, areas of your body that need attention, or emotional patterns that need to be addressed, while also empowering you to become an active participant in your own healing journey, encouraging you to listen to your own inner wisdom and ultimately become your own “Guru”. The body is designed to heal, after all. We only need to tune in and listen.
With Functional Ancestral Nutrition as a Foundation, Melanie's nutritional guidance goes beyond generic dietary approaches. She focuses on identifying the root causes of imbalances, considering factors such as gut microbiome health, inflammation, and cellular function. She emphasizes the importance of bio-individuality, understanding that what works for one person may not work for another. Melanie has also achieved extensive education and certifications in herbalism and ancestral plant medicines to better support the mind-body complex on the path towards healing. As the liver facilitates the management of toxins, including toxic emotions, Melanie emphasizes a strong focus on the health of the liver as our most vital detox organ, which includes lymphatic drainage and circadian rhythm health, as sustainable healing only becomes possible with the opening and strengthening of detoxification pathways and aligning with the body’s natural Earth-rooted patterns.
Utilizing Somatic Pelvic Release, Meditation, EFT and Breathwork for Sustainable and Embodied Healing, Melanie's approach is deeply body-based. Imbalances within the body’s energy centers may often manifest as physical ailments or discomfort in areas associated with specific chakras, while balanced chakras support the healthy flow of vital energy (prana or chi) throughout the body and can enhance the body's natural healing abilities. Emphasizing the connection between mind, body, and emotions. Somatic therapy acknowledges that much of the trapped emotional energy that we refer to as “trauma”, is stored within the pelvic region of the nervous system. She may guide you through somatic pelvic release exercises, gentle breathwork routines, tapping exercises (EFT) and meditative body awareness practices to help you release tension, rewire negative thought patterns, regulate your nervous system, and cultivate a deeper sense of presence. She helps you tune into the subtle sensations in your body, allowing you to access and gently release stored emotions and potential underlying trauma. Becoming more personally aware of the body’s signals and learning to tune in and listen to them, will lead to better overall physical health and emotional well-being.
Melanie will act as a compassionate guide, helping you to navigate the complexities of your physical and emotional well-being, and with the ultimate goal of helping you achieve a sense of safety within your body.
